The famous Irish artist Frederic William Burton (1816-1900) spent his childhood in Corofin, County Clare. The Clare Museum in Ennis hopes to build on his local connections by gathering works by him and other early  Irish artists from Clare. In July 2021 the FNCI were happy to assist this endeavour by purchasing at auction (Morgan O’Driscoll), and presenting to the museum, a fine portrait by Burton in pastel and charcoal of a young woman, thought to be Annie Callwell.
