To date, the FNCI presented nearly 1,000 works, dating from the 14th century to the present day, to public collections all over Ireland. These include important paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, carvings, silver, textiles, stained glass, ceramics, books, manuscripts and furniture.
Most of the galleries and museums in Ireland, especially outside Dublin, have very limited funds (in some cases none at all) for adding new acquisitions to their collections. As a result many objects, including parts of our national heritage, are lost to the country rather than being made available for the education and pleasure of the Irish public.
This is where the FNCI can make a difference, by acquiring works of art and objects of historical importance that might otherwise be lost, and donating them to suitable public galleries, museums, libraries, archives and other institutions across the island of Ireland.
Applications for assistance may be made by organisations such as galleries, libraries, museums, or archives based in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland, including publicly funded bodies, NGOs, and registered charities. As it is a condition of assistance that any works donated by the FNCI should be held permanently by the recipient organisation and should be made publicly accessible, the FNCI is unable to accept applications for assistance from private companies or individuals.
