Edward McGuire RHA has been described as the finest Irish portrait painter since John Butler Yeats. He painted many literary figures, including Patrick Kavanagh, Paul Durcan, Seamus Heaney and Anthony Cronin. His meticulously worked portraits often included the motif of a bird, such as an owl.
